
Simonsberg has launched a new range of hand selected, vacuum sealed cheeses to add to the existing range of 12 months matured Cheddar and 6 months matured Gouda. The new range features a Cheddar 6 month matured, Traditional Gouda, Cheddar and Edam as well as a 4 month matured White Cheddar.
Cheeses such as traditional cheddar and gouda have along history in the South African home, featuring in hors ‘d oeuvres, family meals and in children’s lunch boxes. These stalwarts have been included in this range, but also a few cheeses and variants that aren’t so well known to bring a little bit of variety into your home, and onto your cheeseboard.
Each cheese in the range has been hand selected by our master cheesemaker and vacuum-sealed to lock in their rich and varied flavours.
Simonsberg Cheddar 12 months matured has all the classic qualities of sublime handcrafted Cheddar: a distinctive flavour profile with a sweet nutty, full round creamy note, firm to the touch and a pleasant bite. Serve Simonsberg Mature Cheddar with sweet chilli sauce as piquant dipping sauce. It also combines well with gooseberry jam or a lime and fig dipping sauce.
Simonsberg Gouda 6 months matured is a cheese for every day enjoyment par excellence. This semi-hard, creamy white cheese has a milky, sweet, nutty-savoury taste that lingers in the mouth. A black wax coating protects the cheese from drying out during its 6 months maturing process. The perfect any-time snack cheese, and ultimate sandwich cheese, it also melts beautifully for cheese sauces and Welsh rarebit. Simonsberg Matured Gouda again racked up first-class performances at the SA Dairy Championship Awards, taking both a prestigious Qualité Award, and the title as first class winner in 2008.
Simonsberg Cheddar 6 months matured
This specially matured cheddar has a sweet, nutty flavour and a smooth hard texture. It makes an interesting addition to the cheeseboard due to its slightly more complex flavour or can be used in the making of creamy cheese sauces and fondues.
Simonsberg White Cheddar 4 months matured
This specially matured cheddar contains no colourants, which is why its natural white colour is preserved. It possesses a sweet nutty flavour and a smooth, hard texture. It is perfect straight from the cheeseboard or for the making of creamy cheese sauces and fondues.
Simonsberg Cheddar Traditional
One of the most beloved and renowned cheeses in the world, cheddar possesses a rich, nutty flavour and a smooth, firm texture. However as time goes by it becomes increasingly complex and crumbly unlocking new flavours. It is perfect for sandwiches and can also be used in salads or sauces.
Simonsberg Gouda Traditional
A favourite in South African homes, traditional gouda has a rich, buttery and slightly sweet flavour and a smooth creamy texture. Enjoy it on sandwiches, in sauces or straight from the cheeseboard.
Simonsberg Edam Traditional
This traditional medium fat cheese possesses a mild, nutty flavour and a smooth, firm texture. Edam goes perfectly with fresh fruit, or can be enjoyed straight from the cheeseboard.
